EXERCISE YOUR MUSCLES by resistance training. Keep up your strength!

As you get older you need to hang on to what you have got……

6, 700 folks in 121 randomised studies showed that older people who exercise their muscles against a force or resistance become stronger.They also improve their performance of simple activities such as

  • walking,
  • getting out of a chair
  • stair climbing

Improvement in these latter activities is generally greater than walking speed.

Improvement in daily activities

Moreover, these strength training exercises improved older people’s physical abilities including more complex daily activities such as

  • bathing
  • preparing a meal

Reduce pain

People with osteoarthritis who participated in resistance training  reduced pain.
